The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to your mate
(Nobody in the family has a copy that I know of)
What I (Tiff) liked about it:
I think this book just got me focused on my behavior and how I'm showing love to my husband...and I think it was nice to have a book help me focus inward on what I can do to be better and express love better. In a marriage that's always a good thing!

The Five Love Languages of Children
(Nobody in the family has a copy that I know of)
What I (Tiff) liked about it:
Gave LOTS of ideas of how to express love to your child in many different, diversified ways. It also talked about how showing love to your children on a regular basis can help reduce behavior problems and make discipline easier and I am a believer in that idea. All in all, I think you can gain some insights from it.

Marriage preparedness book, but a lot of it applies to couples that have been married a long time too. Good marriage book for anybody.

The Two Income Trap
by Elizabeth Warren and Amelia Warren Tyagi
(Don’t have a copy)
Great book! It shows through research why a married couple both working full-time jobs often reduces you ability to create wealth and puts your family in more financial risk than if only one person in the family worked! Amazing concept, but totally makes sense after reading it! Finally gave me a financial reason to be a stay at home mom

The Millionaire Next Door
by Thomas Stanley
(David Lundell has a copy, Tiffany has a copy)
The one thing I got from this book is that you can’t just know how to earn money and hope to be financially secure from being able to earn it. You also have to know how to manage it too! And even if you don’t have a high income job—it doesn’t mean you have to be poor your entire life. You can still do well financially if you learn how to manage your money properly.

Firm Family Foundations
by Lili Anderson
(Tiffany has a copy)
Lili Anderson was one of my teachers in college. She really changed the way I understand the gospel and family relationships. This is a parenting book. I use her main ideas in how I try to parent our kids and I think it really makes a difference.

Standing for Something 10 neglected virtues that will heal our hearts and homes
by Gordon B. Hinckley

This is the kind of book you get done reading and have the feelings that you want to do better and that you can do better. It’s a “can do” book and it’s full of, well, prophetic wisdom.

At BYU our married student ward bishop bought a copy of this book for every couple in the ward!! It is awesome! I think every married couple should read it. Helped me understand the atonement a little more too.

Success through a Positive Mental Attitude
by W. Clement Stone
(Tiffany has a copy)
My Dad paid me $100 to read this book when I was in high school. Not a real page turner. But, if you can stick with it and read through it, it really does give you good reasons why having a positive attitude in life is an important ingredient to success. I believe it! And I think it’s a truth of the gospel too. President Hinckley and Joseph Smith are great examples of always having a positive attitude. Remember when in Liberty Jail Joseph Smith writes to the saints to be cheerful!? (end of section 123)

Leadership and Self-Deception getting outside of the box
by the Arbinger Institute
(Dad has the book, and Joey has the book on CD)
Last spring we took a parenting class. Br. Dalton, our teacher and the UA Institute teacher, mentioned that the two books he rereads every year are the Book of Mormon and this book. I had to read it. I’m glad I did. It’s good food for thought, very true I think, and a great reminder that true charity is a change of heart---not just outward actions. I also think it reinforces one of my favorite scriptures by Paul, 1 Cor. 13:12 “For now we see through a glass darkly…” That’s the self deception part…

Crucial Conversations: Tools for talking when the stakes are high
by Kerry Patterson (David Lundell and Joey have copies of this)
David gave this to us at Christmas. At that time, this book was just what I needed to read! It is a great book on how to communicate in a kinder and more meaningful way. Great for marriages and family relationships but written for work. David has a great story of how this book blessed his family too.

Cherece recommended this to me a couple years ago. Great book on how to effectively discipline and teach children without resorting to yelling, threats, or permissiveness! If there’s one parenting book I’d recommend this would be it. (I think Heavenly Father is a Love and Logic parent!
